Kevin Skinner's Mother Overwhelmed By Support

Mayfield, KY – Mayfield, Kentucky's Kevin Skinner has found national recognition on NBC's America's Got Talent. Skinner was advanced to the next round of the competition this week after his rendition of "Always on My Mind." He is now one of ten semifinalists in the run for one million dollars. Caleb Campbell spoke with Kevin's mother, Jacklin Skinner, about her son's love of music and the support he is receiving back home.

Racers Score Record Setting Victory Over KY Wesleyan

Murray, KY – The Murray State Racers set a new school record for points scored in a season opener with a solid 66 to 10 victory over the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers last night at Stewart Stadium.

The Racers ran for 170 yards and passed for 146 yards. Murray State's defense forced four turnovers and held the Panthers to just 12 yards passing.

The Racers return to action on the road September 12th to take on North Carolina State. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. (central) at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Paris Mayor Appointed to LBL Advisory Board

Paris, TN – Paris, Tennessee Mayor Sam Tharpe has been appointed by Governor Phil Bredesen to serve on the Land Between the Lakes Advisory Board. Tharpe has accepted the 5-year term. He is one of two out the 17 voting members on the board that are appointed by the Governor of Tennessee. The board advises the secretary of agriculture on land use to promote public participation and how to promote environmental education. The board's next meeting is scheduled for October 29th at Kenlake State Park.

KY State Police Up Visibility Over Holiday Weekend

Mayfield, KY – Kentucky state police are planning to increase their presence on the roads during the upcoming holiday weekend. Commissioner Rodney Brewer says the bulk of state troopers will be assigned to traffic patrol beginning at 6 tonight and continuing through late Monday night.

Ex-Soldier to Be Sentenced in Rape, Murders

Paducah, KY – A former U.S. Army soldier is scheduled to be sentenced to life in prison without parole for the rape and murder of an Iraqi teenager and the shooting deaths of three of her family members.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Russell is expected to hand down the automatic life sentence to former Private Steven Dale Green on Friday.

101st Command Heading to Afghanistan in May, June

Fort Campbell, KY – The commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell says the 101st will go back to Afghanistan starting in May and June. Major General John Campbell says the deployment of the 82nd Airborne, which replaced the 101st when it left, has been extended about 50 days.
