Enrollment Down at SIUC

Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University officials blame the sluggish economy for a continued enrollment slide this fall at SIU's Carbondale campus. Enrollment is down a little over 300 students from a year ago. The Associated Press reports this marks the fifth straight year enrollment has gone down at SIUC. President Glenn Poshard says the economy has taken a toll on student attendance despite the university's best efforts to limit the drop.

Four in Hopkinsville Arrested for Drug Trafficking

Hopkinsville, KY – Four people in Hopkinsville have been arrested on felony drug trafficking charges. The Hopkinsville police searched a Canton Street home yesterday (Wednesday) and found three bags of marijuana, paraphernalia, a handgun, and cash. The Kentucky New Era reports officers arrested 32-year-old Cyrus Greenwade, 26-year-old Mary Stokes, 22-year-old Tramaine Hawkins, and 24-year-old Marcum Slappy of Bowling Green. All four were taken to the Christian County Jail. Stokes has been released on surety bond.
