Griffo to Head Town and Gown

Murray, KY – A Murray State University employee has been selected to head the International Town and Gown Association. MSU Town and Gown Coordinator Kim Griffo will serve as Executive Director for two years. She will work out of Town and Gown's main offices at Clemson University in South Carolina, but still have a part time connection to MSU. The T and G program focuses on creating business partnerships between Universities and cities.

McConnell on Healthcare

Bowling Green, KY – Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says Congress should start over on health care legislation, and says the president should consider canceling future stimulus funding.

On foreign policy, the Kentucky lawmaker says he hopes President Obama will "stay the course" in Afghanistan. McConnell's remarks at Western Kentucky University yesterday were part of the school's Constitution Week celebration.

Henry County High School Student Dies in Wreck

Paris, TN – A Henry County High School senior was killed early Sunday in a car wreck north of Buchanan. 17-year-old David L. Rowlette of Paris died in the single-vehicle accident when the car he was driving hit a tree on Rabbit Creek Road. The wreck was apparently the result of an over-correction after the car ran off the side of the roadway. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports a passenger in the car was injured and treated at Henry County Medical.

Check Presented to WKCT

Graves County, KY –
Mayfield and Graves County officials presented West Kentucky Community and Technical College a check for five-hundred thousand dollars yesterday. The funds come as the result of a recent Community Development Block Grant. It was paired with a one-point five million dollar donation by the Lay Family Foundation of St. Louis, Missouri. The funding helps the school to purchase a new building to house skilled craft training programs. The trade school is expected to open October first near Mayfield.

Stumbo Unveils Domestic Violence Legislation

Frankfort, KY – This Thursday, Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo will unveil legislation named in honor of recent murder victim Amanda Ross. Ross was gunned down September 11th outside her Lexington townhouse. Former legislator Steve Nunn is charged with her murder. Stumbo says the bill will allow judges to require the subjects of domestic violence orders to wear monitoring devices.
