Possible Swine Flu Death

Caldwell County, KY – Health officials are investigating the death of a thirteen old Caldwell County girl that may be related to swine flu. Cabinet for Health and Family Services spokeswoman Gwenda Bond says tests results are expected early next week to determine if H-one N-one caused the death. Bill Myers with the Crittenden County Coroner's Office tells WPSD-TV the girl died Wednesday in Marion after being taken to the Hospital with flu-like symptoms.

Illinois Unemployment Rates

Chicago, Ill –
The state of Illinois released their unemployment rates earlier this week. The state's average is down from ten-point-four percent in July to nine-point-nine percent for the month of August. In Southern Illinois, Hardin County rates are highest with twelve-point-two percent. Massac County has the lowest, with nine percent.

Nunn Waives Preliminary Hearing

Lexington, KY – Former Kentucky lawmaker Steve Nunn won't be having preliminary hearing in Fayette District Court tomorrow morning. This sends his murder case directly to the grand jury. Fifty-six-year-old Steve Nunn pleaded "not guilty" last week to the murder of his former fiancee, Amanda Ross, who was gunned down outside her Lexington townhouse September 11th. A preliminary hearing was set for Friday morning.

Beshear Asks Senators to Act

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is asking the state's U-S Senators to support an extension to unemployment benefits. The Commonwealth has an 11.1 percent unemployment rate. A bill recently passed in the U-S House of Representatives would provide an additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits to those who qualify. In the past year, 123-thousand Kentuckians have claimed emergency unemployment compensation.
