Legislator Proposes to Raise Wine Limits

Frankfort, KY – State Senator Damon Thayer believes small wineries in Kentucky should be allowed to double their production. The Republican testified today before the Interim Joint Committee on Licensing and Occupations. He says the Commonwealth currently has limits on the amount of wine those small farms can produce.

"Currently the cap is at 50,000 gallons a year and my proposal is to raise that cap to 100,000 gallons a year. We are seeing tremendous growth in the winery industry in Kentucky."

Pittman Replaces Hudspeth on Council

Murray, KY – The Murray City Council has chosen a replacement for former councilman Danny Hudspeth's seat. Hudspeth was recently picked to fill out the late Mayor Tom Rushing's term. Community Financial Services Bank Regional Branch Manager Jason Pittman is the new council member. Pittman has previously served, but chose to not run for reelection last year. He beat out two other candidates for the position, Tommy Sanders and David Ramey. Pittman received seven votes, Sanders and Ramey both received two.

Christian County Schools Opening Up Again

Hopkinsville, KY – Following two recent school closings for high flu absences in Christian County, the district plans to open up at full capacity Monday. The district has been closed for fall break, but spokesperson Regan Honeycutt says all schools will have classes next week. That includes the two elementary schools closed for high absenteeism. So far, officials are not planning to monitor flu absences, but Honeycutt says they'll begin to count attendance again if the need arises.

Lottery Giving Back More Funds

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Lottery is on track to return a greater share of its profits to state government. The current state budget requires a 28-percent return, and Lottery President Arch Gleason says the goal was achieved in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. But there are still three more quarters to go.
