Alan Keyes Speaks to Schoolchildren

Elkton, KY – Four-time candidate for president Alan Keyes is speaking to schoolchildren this week in Todd and Christian counties. Keyes, a conservative political commentator and constitution scholar, covers the Constitutional theory and government in his speeches. The Kentucky New Era reports Keyes will be in the region through Thursday.

Health Department Gives Out Vaccines

Paducah, KY – Purchase Area health departments will start giving out H1N1 vaccinations this week at various locations across the region. There is a limited number of vaccines available so the health department suggests calling each health center for availability. There is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine. The department is targeting the high risk groups with the first shipment. For specific times and locations, go to our website, wkms.org.

More Soldiers Deployments

Fort Campbell, KY – More Fort Campbell soldiers are headed to Afghanistan. The Department of Defense announced today the 1st Brigade Combat Team will deploy to Afghanistan in the spring. Fort Campbell will send around thirty-seven hundred soldiers. The D-O-D previously announced deployments for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101 Combat Aviation Brigade, and the 101st Airborne Division headquarters.

Henry County on Board for Solar Industry

Paris, TN – Henry County, Tennessee is joining three neighboring counties to pitch itself as a good place for the solar industry to locate. The group has created a marketing brochure to dsistribute to potentional run-off industries that could be created nearby after Clarksville's new semi-conductor plant open in 2012. The group that includes Benton, Carroll, and Weakley counties promotes itself as "the central corridor of the Volunteer State solar initiative."

Mayfield Receives EPA Grant

Mayfield, KY – The city of Mayfield is getting a big boost to its local infrastructure. Tomorrow, representatives from the state and U-S governments will present city officials with nearly a million dollars to improve their aging water system. The money will also go toward creating green jobs and boosting the local economy. Funding for the projects comes from the federal stimulus program.
