Fulton Commissioner's Home Attacked

Fulton, KY – Fulton City Police are investigating shots fired at a city commissioner's home. Michael Farmer reported damage to his home late Monday night. Apparently several shots were fired into the residence. Farmer and a close relative were inside at the time. Officers continue to investigate and they ask anyone with information to call the Fulton City Police Department.

Prepaid College Tuition in Trouble

Bowling Green, KY – Eighteen states, including Kentucky, offer families the chance to pay current tuition costs for college in the future. Jo Carol Ellis is with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. She says a combination of factors have many prepaid college tuition programs facing deficits.

"You have a combination of years of significantly high tuition increases compounded by less than great investment markets."

Fresh Air is one of the newer shows in the WKMS program schedule. Mary Thorsby listens to Fresh Air on WKMS, her public radio home since moving to Paducah. Paducah Planning Downtown Winter Wonderland'

Paducah, KY – Paducah hopes to create a winter wonderland around its downtown skating rink this year. Planners hope to install a concession stand to sell soups and hot drinks, have Christmas trees for sale nearby, and even welcome Santa Claus to visit the three Saturdays prior to the holiday. Paducah Parks Services Director Mark Thompson says he thinks the added services will bring a more local flavor to the event, which opens November 13th. According to the Paducah Sun, 25,000 people are expected to visit the rink this winter.

TN Man Pleads Guilty to ID Theft, Fraud

Fort Campbell, KY – A 28-year-old former Fort Campbell soldier has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to identity theft and bank fraud. Chief Judge Thomas B. Russell also ordered Deldrick Toles of Clarksville, Tennessee, to pay almost $21,000 in restitution.

Western District of Kentucky US Attorney Candace Hill announced the sentence yesterday. Hill says Toles admitted to defrauding the Army Air Force Exchange Service by using Military Star account numbers belonging to others to obtain goods and services.

UK Basketball Icon Mulls Run for Governor in 2011

Frankfort, KY – University of Kentucky basketball icon Richie Farmer is considering running for Kentucky governor on the Republican ticket. Farmer says he's been in discussions about a possible run and may do some political polling in the near future. Democratic Governor Steve Beshear is the only major candidate who has entered the race so far. He has chosen Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson as his running mate.

New Highway Stretch Nearly Done

Murray, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to recognize the final section of KY Hwy. 80 between Aurora and Mayfield. The stretch of road won't open today, however. Recent rain has delayed construction. State Senator Ken Winters of Murray says the new section will make the drive from Mayfield to Murray and the Kentucky and Barkley lakes quicker and safer.

Pennyrile State Park Gets Money

Caldwell Co., KY – Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear has announced $1.1 million for new horse camping sites at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. Between ten and fifteen full service sites will be added for horse camping. The funds come from an allotment for state park improvements.
