Beshear Appoints New MSU Regent

Murray, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has appointed a new Murray State University Regent to the board. Louisville Health Care Executive Stephen Williams will fill the position vacated by Judge Jeff Taylor, who was forced to resign. The Republican Williams is an MSU alumnus and native western Kentuckian. University spokesperson Catherine Sivills says Williams' first appearance in his role as regent will be November 3 at a recruitment function in Louisville. He will attend his first board of regents meeting December 4.

Hometown Chef Makes Good

Paducah, Ky. – Bradley Thornton has cooked for plenty of hungry celebrities. The 24-year-old Murray native works as a chef for The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a swank North Carolina golf resort with a course designed for Tiger Woods. He's returning to the area to guest chef with Master Distiller Jimmy Russell at the Carson Center Distiller's Dinner Saturday night. Jacque Day spoke with this young culinary artist, who has a modest way with words, but an elegant way with a knife and menu.

Gonzales Speech Protesters

Martin, TN – Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales got a mixed reception during a speech at University of Tennessee Martin last night. Gonzales resigned in 2007 amid accusations that he authorized the torture of terrorism suspects. The Jackson Sun reports A group of about 35 students protested the speech, in which Gonzales stressed the importance of education and also defended the Bush administration's handling of the War on Terror.

Western Kentucky Pellet Power

Marion, KY – Bobby Martin and his son Turner Martin have been in the sawmill business for sometime. Their Marion, Kentucky company, Turner and Conyer Lumber has been in operation for more than 55 years. Their latest addition to the business, is a fairly new concept in this part of the state. In 2006, Turner Martin began researching wood pellet power. Because of their current business focus, Martin sees it as a logical choice.

Murray State dedicates new digital organ with Lovett concert
