Beshear: KY Needs to Act on Casinos after OH Vote

Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear says now's the time for Kentucky to act on approving expanded gambling, a day after Ohio voters approved casinos in four cities. Beshear says Ohio residents are going to be reaping the benefits of thousands of new jobs and millions in new tax dollars. Beshear says the state "can't afford to wait any longer" on the issue, claiming it could lead to immediate economic benefits in Kentucky.

Henry Co. Grand Jury Indicts Drunk Boater

Paris, TN – A Henry County grand jury has indicted a Montgomery County man Monday on charges related to a woman's death in a boating crash on Kentucky Lake last July. 37-year-old David Ray Phelps faces charges of vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, reckless operation of a motorboat, and boating under the influence. The Paris Post-Intelligencer reports Phelps allegedly crashed his bass fishing boat into a pontoon boat while intoxicated, killing 47-year-old Sandra Renee Adams of Murfreesboro and injuring her 16-year-old daughter.

Alcohol Ordinance First Reading

Cadiz, KY – The Trigg County Fiscal Court will hear the first reading of an alcohol ordinance November 23. The ordinance is the result of a September referendum that lifted prohibition in the county. The Cadiz Record reports the second reading will take place in December. County Judge-Executive Stan Humphries says after passage, businesses could begin acquiring liquor licenses within sixty days and beer licenses sooner than that.
