'Imminent Shutdown' of Alexander County, Illinois

Cairo, IL – Commissioner Angela Greenwell says Alexander County has been running on a deficit budget for nearly a decade. She took office almost five years ago.

Greenwell-- There was a deficit budget well over $300,000 and it's been increasing exponentially since I've been in office.

First Quarterly Meeting for MSU Board

Murray, KY – The Murray State University Board of Regents has their quarterly meeting today. This is the first business meeting of the year for the board, which will discuss policy and personnel changes, among other issues. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 10 AM in Pogue Library.

Census Worker Killed

Manchester, KY – The FBI is investigating whether a U.S. Census worker found hanged from a tree near an Eastern Kentucky cemetery was a victim of anti-government sentiment. A law enforcement official says the word "fed" was scrawled on his chest. The body of Bill Sparkman was found Sept. 12th in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Manchester in southeast Kentucky.

Paris Special School District Afflicted by Flu

Paris, TN – The Paris Special School District is being afflicted by flu illnesses. About 135 students were absent yesterday; that's eight percent of the districts' student body. Schools are taking steps to reduce the current outbreak. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports the district is also working on a plan to provide lunch, online assignments, and instruction to healthy students in case the school is forced to close.
