Fancy Farm, KY – Groundbreaking for the new Fancy Farm Elementary School is scheduled for next Monday. The 9 a-m ceremony will be held on the future site of the new school, just south of the Knights of Columbus Hall. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in current Fancy Farm's gymnasium. State Senator Ken Winters and state Representative Fred Nesler both plan to attend.
Calvert City, KY – A western Kentucky native is one of 32 recipients of this year's Rhodes Scholarships. Calvert City resident Anthony Chase Palisch [PAL-ish] is a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major at Kentucky's Centre College. Rhodes Scholars receive full scholarships for two to three years of doctoral study at the University of Oxford in England.
Benton, KY – Fleetwood Homes has announced it will close its manufacturing plant in Benton, Kentcky. It's part of a five plant closure affecting Fleetwood facilities nationwide. Marshall County Chamber of Commerce records say the Benton plant employs 135 workers. That's down from 210 in January. Company officials expect to permanently close the plant within 60 days. Fleetwood will provide job placement assistance for its former employees.
