Census Worker Killed

Manchester, KY – The FBI is investigating whether a U.S. Census worker found hanged from a tree near an Eastern Kentucky cemetery was a victim of anti-government sentiment. A law enforcement official says the word "fed" was scrawled on his chest. The body of Bill Sparkman was found Sept. 12th in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Manchester in southeast Kentucky.

Paris Special School District Afflicted by Flu

Paris, TN – The Paris Special School District is being afflicted by flu illnesses. About 135 students were absent yesterday; that's eight percent of the districts' student body. Schools are taking steps to reduce the current outbreak. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports the district is also working on a plan to provide lunch, online assignments, and instruction to healthy students in case the school is forced to close.

School Sales Tax Holiday

Frankfort, KY – A Kentucky lawmaker is proposing a sales tax holiday for items such as clothes, computers and school supplies. Eastern Kentucky Democratic Representative Fitz Steele is planning legislation for the General Assembly's upcoming January session. Steele's proposal would create a three-day tax holiday in early August for Kentuckians to avoid the state's 6 percent sales tax.

Murray Man Dies in Crash

Benton, KY – A Murray man is dead after apparently falling asleep at the wheel. 22-year-old Jeremy Haley was driving in Marshall County on Oak Level Road early this morning when he apparently fell asleep and drifted off the road and into a tree. Haley died at the scene from his injuries. Police report he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Henry County School System still searching

Henry County, TN – The Henry County School System is still in search of a superintendent. As of today, interviews are still in progress. The last interview is October 7 before the board reconvenes on the 14th. So far, eight candidates from across the country have interviewed for the position. The district began accepting applications in July. There is no projected date for the board to make a selection.
