Fancy Farm, KY – The U.S. Postal Service is giving a nod to the Fancy Farm Picnic. A special stamp cancellation featuring dancing pigs will be used for the first time to commemorate the "world's largest picnic" at St. Jerome Parish in Fancy Farm.
Officer in Charge Bobby Stokes created the design. Stokes says he wanted to include pigs on the cancellation to carry over the barbecue theme. Mail order requests for the special cancellations will be available for 30 days starting on August 1st.
Frankfort, KY – Political contributors who have donated thousands of dollars to US Senator Jim Bunning's campaigns in the past are finding a new Republican to support for Senate. Dozens of donors are switching their allegiance to support Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who has formed an exploratory committee and is considering running for Bunning's seat.
Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says he's trying to recruit Democrats who support casino gambling to run for state Senate seats next year, including the 2nd District seat of Paducah independent Bob Leeper. The Paducah Sun reports Beshear has spoken with Paducah attorney Glenn Denton about running, however Beshear did not disclose details of the conversation or say who else might be interested in running. Denton did not comment on his plans or his position on expanding gambling.
Benton, KY – Marshall County emergency responders and law enforcement will conduct a mock bank robbery exercise tomorrow afternoon in Benton. The drill is set to take place at 3:30 inside the Community Financial Services Bank (CFSB) on Fifth Street. Agencies including the county's special response team, sheriff's department, ambulance service, emergency management, and the Benton Police are expected to take part in the drill.
Paducah, KY – A McCracken County man and his stepfather were arrested on a host of drug charges Friday at their Oaks Road homes. 34-year-old Jason Grissom and his stepfather, 47-year-old James Kingston, were arrested after sheriff's deputies found five marijuana plants with growing equipment in Grissom's garage and a meth lab in a trailer behind Kingston's home. The Paducah Sun reports Kingston tried to swallow a bag of meth as deputies approached him.
