Clarksville, TN – A Clarksville man was found guilty yesterday in Montgomery County Court of killing a toddler. 36-year-old Timothy Diggs, Senior will spend at least 51 years in prison for beating 22-month-old Christopher Andre Nicholson, who died from blunt force injuries two years ago. Judge Mike Jones found Diggs guilty of felony murder and aggravated child abuse following a two-day trial. Automatic sentencing makes Diggs eligible for parole in 2060. Those figures could change as a sentencing hearing is scheduled for early September.
Fort Campbell, KY – The 101st Airborne Division receives a new commanding officer Friday, when Major General Jeffrey Schloesser relinquishes command to incoming Major General John F. Campbell. General Schloesser has served as commander of the 101st since 2006. General Campbell comes to the division from the Pentagon, where he served as Deputy Director for Regional Operations to the Joint Staff. He has also served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The transfer of command will take place at Fort Campbell Friday morning at 9.
Hopkinsville, KY – 18 police departments throughout the Commonwealth have been awarded a total of more than $5 million in federal grant money to pay for 31 police officer salaries. The Obama administration announced yesterday the grants range from approximately $80,000 to hire one officer at the Cumberland Police Department to more than $660,000 to hire four officers in Hopkinsville. The money will pay for the officers' salary and benefits for three years.
