Police K-9 Attacks Pedestrian

Hopkinsville, KY – The Christian County Sheriff's Department is conducting an internal investigation after one its K-9 police dogs ran after and attacked an innocent pedestrian yesterday. 70-year-old Wilma Lacefield was bitten on her arms, causing lacerated wounds. The K-9's handler, Deputy Scott Noisworthy was able kennel the dog. The Sheriff's Department has placed the dog on inactive status until the investigation is completed.

TN Law Will Strengthen 'Crooks With Guns' Legislation

Nashville, TN – A measure cracking down on violent crime in Tennessee is among a number of new laws taking effect January 1st. The legislation builds on the "Crooks with Guns" law passed during the 2007 Tennessee General Assembly. Among its provisions, the law adds a minimum of three years to the sentence of a violator who possesses a firearm while attempting first-degree murder. If that person has a prior felony conviction, then at least five years will be added.

Paul Officially Files Paperwork for Senate Run

Frankfort, KY – Rand Paul, son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, has officially entered the GOP primary race for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Jim Bunning. Paul's campaign manager turned in the candidacy papers and a $500 check to the secretary of state's office yesterday afternoon. Paul has raised more than $1.7 million for his campaign largely by reaching out to people who had supported his father's unsuccessful presidential bid.

Cold Temps, Slick Roads Expected on New Year's Eve

Paducah, KY – Weather forecasters say New Year's Eve celebrations could be hampered by slick roads and colder temperatures moving into Kentucky. National Weather Service meteorologists say precipitation left on roads from Wednesday evening showers will likely freeze as a cold front moves in tonight. So, people heading out this evening to ring in the new year should be cautious as they encounter possible slick spots on roads throughout the state.
