Gateway Gives Area Students Second Chance

Mayfield, Ky. – Mayfield's alternative Gateway Academy High School has graduated more than 300 since 2002, and now is placing students in paid work experience internships through the Workforce Investment Act. The school has given area students Meagan Hawkins and Michelle Davis a second chance. Jacque Day visited them in Mayfield, and has this story.

Central Ken. Prison Riot Theory

Frankfort, KY – A total lockdown that followed an inmate-on-inmate assault is the cause of an August riot at a central Kentucky prison. At least that's the opinion of Northpoint Training Center employee Vick Morris, who testified before a legislative panel in Frankfort. Morris called the food at the prison, "slop," but said it was not the cause of the riot.

Man Pleads Not Guilty to Pot Growing

Paducah, KY – A Trigg County man accused of cultivating over two hundred marijuana plants has pled not guilty in U-S District Court in Paducah. Danny Wade Snyder faces a maximum 40 years in prison and a two million dollar fine. Snyder will go before a federal grand jury for his trial.

Tenn. Rep. Williams Stripped of GOP Creds

Elizabethton, TN – Tennessee Republican U.S. Senator Bob Corker says he won't get involved in whether state House Speaker Kent Williams should have his GOP credentials restored. Williams was stripped of his Republican credentials earlier this year for teaming with the chamber's forty-nine Democrats to win the speaker's seat over the Republican nominee. The Kingsport Times-News reports that when asked about Williams' status at a town hall meeting on Wednesday, Corker called the matter "a local and state issue".

H1N1 vaccines in the area

Caldwell and Trigg County, KY – H1N1 vaccinations continue today from the Pennyrile District Health Department in Trigg and Caldwell counties. The Department will administer vaccinations from 4 to 7pm today at Caldwell County Primary School and Trigg County Middle School. Though the shots are targeted for teens and pre-teens, the department will give shots to families of students. The vaccinations are free, but the department asks community members to bring their medical information with them.
