Fire Season Complicated by Debris

Murray, KY – Though current wintry weather might suggest otherwise, Kentucky's spring fire season has begun and the Division of Foresty expects this one to be difficult. Division spokeswoman Dianna Olszowy (ol-CHEVY) says debris strewn along the ground and tangled in tree limbs will only complicate firefighting.

Smiths Speaks in Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY – Noted historian and regular C-SPAN commentator Richard Norton Smith spoke in Bowling Green last night as a part of a series of lectures he's delivering about Abraham Lincoln. Norton served as the founder and former director of the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Illinois says the 16th president's relationship with the media wasn't always friendly.

Beshear Calls for Energy Savings

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is calling for state-owned facilities operated by the Finance Cabinet to lower the thermostat and turn off the lights at night. That includes the State Capitol, the Capitol Annex and the Governor's Mansion.

Carlisle County Courthouse

Bardwell, KY – Construction on Carlisle County's new courthouse will begin soon. Officials break ground next week for the facility, which will replace one that burned down in December 2007. The Kentucky General Assembly approved the construction of a new courthouse last year. Completion is set for December 2011.
