Henry County Homeland Security Grant Vote

Paris, TN – Henry County Commissioners will vote next week to put an almost $34,000 Homeland Security grant into play. The grant will be used to pay for various items so the county can serve as a mobilization center for nine northwest Tennessee counties during a security-related disaster. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports officials plan to buy radio and rescue equipment, including a portable, inflatable 37-foot antenna tower.

TN Senate Votes to Delay Paper Ballot Law

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Senate has voted to delay a state law requiring paper ballots on elections machines. The chamber voted 22-to-10 Tuesday to pass the bill and send it for the governor's consideration. Governor Phil Bredesen's office had no immediate comment on whether he plans to sign the measure into law. The current law requires the new voting machines before this year's elections. Under the bill approved yesterday, that requirement will be shifted to the 2012 election cycle.
