Groves Superintendent Nearing

Henry County, TN – The board that will select the new Henry County Director of schools meets this afternoon at 4. Board chairman Tricia Reimbold tells the Paris Post-Intelligencer that the board has more freedom in their decision because of the large candidate pool. Many candidates will be cut after today's meeting. It is not clear whether the board will make their final decision today.

Retirees still waiting for decision

Massac County, IL – Some 70 Massac County District 1 school retirees are still waiting for the decision on whether the original rate for their life insurance will stand strong. The rate that went up considerably is now on the docket in Massac County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Ronald Ekiss will hear the case on March 8th at 1pm.

Amanda's bill clears the house

Frankfort, KY – Amanda's Bill, passed without a single no vote today (Tuesday). Amanda's Bill was proposed after a former Kentucky lawmaker was charged with murder and violating a domestic violence order in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend, Amanda Ross, outside her Lexington home.

MSU Hall of Fame inductees 2010

Murray, KY – Murray State Athletics have announced the 2010 Hall of Fame inductees. Five men and women from different sports will be honored at a February 5th banquet. The inductees include golfer Jenny Daag, basketball players Marcus Brown and Steve Newton, football player Don Heine and track and fielder Stephanie Saleem.

Great Dividends for Droupout Prevention

Bowling Green, KY – Two bills have been filed in the current legislative session to raise Kentucky's high school dropout age from 16 to 18. State representative Jody Richards says the dropout age could not be raised without having alternative schools, which he says most districts already have. Richards doesn't feel it would be an unfunded mandate.

District Goes for Accreditation

Murray, KY – The Calloway County School District is undergoing its first district-wide accreditation evaluation. Public Relations Coordinator David Dowdy says in the past Calloway has done school by school evaluations, but these have not included the preschool. Officials hope district-wide accreditation will help them develop a better strategy for educating the county's children. Dowdy says an accreditation team began visiting the district Monday. They will present their report to the board tomorrow.
