Fulton Co. Deputy Jailer Arrested for Trafficking

Hickman, KY – A Fulton County Deputy Jailer has been arrested on drug trafficking charges after an investigation showed he was allegedly selling them to inmates. Ian Whittington of Hickman has been charged with promoting contraband, official misconduct, and trafficking cocaine, Oxycontin, and Marijuana. WPSDTV reports County Jailer Ricky Parnell prompted an investigation when he became suspicious that one of his deputies was involved in some kind of illegal activity at the facility.

TN Bill Clarifies Law Allowing Ammunition near Rifle

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Senate has unanimously approved legislation that makes it clear ammunition can be transported alongside rifles or shotguns as long as the weapon is not loaded. Current law specifies that handgun permit holders can transport a rifle or shotgun as long as there's no ammunition in the chamber. The proposed legislation says anyone can have ammunition next to the weapon as long as there's nothing in the chamber or cylinder.

KY Budget Outline

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House leaders have unveiled the broad outline of a new state spending plan. The proposal cuts university budgets two-percent in each year of the biennium. Universities also won't be getting money for capital projects, says House Speaker Greg Stumbo.

"They do need some M&O money. And we are going to try to get them some M&O money for the new buildings that are coming online. You know, that part of the puzzle is probably the one that's most up in the air at this point."

Bible Literacy

Frankfort, KY – Bible literacy legislation is on its way to the full senate. The measure unanimously passed the senate education committee Thursday. It allows school councils to establish elective Bible courses. Frankfort Senator Julian Carrol is co-sponsoring the legislation.

"All we have to deal with is to make sure that it's not taught as a faith based course and rather that it's taught as a historical document."
