Patriot Coal Case Moved to St. Louis

Patriot Coal’s federal bankruptcy case will no longer be heard in New York City. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Shelley Chapman in New York ruled that the case be moved to St. Louis, where Patriot Coal is based. Chapman says there were hundreds of handwritten letters from retired coal miners.

Hostess bankruptcy will close Mayfield depot

The closing of the major baked goods provider Hostess is leaving employees in our region out of work. The Irving, Texas based company and maker of twinkies and wonder bread is closing plants, laying off more than 18,000 workers and putting its brands up for sale.

Jones Company CBR Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

College Book Rental Company, LLC, (CBR) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The case filed October 4, 2012, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle Tennessee District of Tennessee petitions relief of approximately $15,036,951.93 in debts. Fifteen million dollars of that claim are for money loaned.

Dippin Dots Sold Amongst Bankruptcy Proceedings

An Oklahoma-based company has purchased Dippin Dots, Incorporated. The Paducah-based Dippin Dots is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings and a court-mandated change in ownership. The Oklahoma company, which goes by the same name, struck the deal yesterday in U.S. bankruptcy court to purchase Dippin Dots for more than 12.5 million dollars. Dippin Dots' Paducah factory employs 165 people.

Dippin’ Dots CEO Resigns

Dippin’ Dots founder Curt Jones resigned as CEO yesterday as part of an agreement reached with Regions Bank. The agreement allows the novelty ice-cream company to borrow an additional 1.25 million dollars to maintain operations until the business can be auctioned off. Regions Bank refused to give the loan unless Jones resigned. Dippin’ Dots filed for federal bankruptcy protection last November to prevent foreclosure on more than 11 million dollars in loans.
