Officials say the $41 million &nbsp;in grants will be used to support additional staff, including college and career counselors, teacher coaches and for professional development. The school districts are part of the Ohio Valley and Green River Regional Education Cooperatives. Known as GEAR UP, or Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, the federal grant expects to serve 10,000 Kentucky students from low-incomes schools over six years. The goal is to increase the number of students who finish high school and continue their education. The money will be used for hiking, biking, horseback riding trails. First lady Jane Beshear made the announcement earlier this week in Frankfort.
