NTSB Issues Findings in Eggners Ferry Bridge Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board says the January 2012 allision between the cargo ship the Delta Mariner and the Eggners Ferry Bridge resulted from poor bridge span lighting and crew inattention to available navigational tools. The ship sheared off a 300 foot span of the bridge that crosses Kentucky Lake. No one was injured.

Transportation Crews Prepare for Winter Storm

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews plan to pre-treat area highways ahead of freezing rain, sleet and snow expected to sweep through the region Thursday night into Friday. National Weather Service forecasters predict up to two inches of snow along a line north of Cape Girardeau to Madisonville with a mix of sleet freezing rain and snow south of that line. NWS officials say the forecast may change.

Graves County Road Closure

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close a portion of KY 1748 in Graves County starting Dec. 18. Workers will conduct substructure repairs to the Obion Creek Branch Bridge. The closure is between Bostick Lane and Calhoun Street about a mile southeast of US 45.

Five KY River Ports Get Grants

Four western Kentucky public river ports and a fifth in Louisville have been awarded state grants for repairs and improvements. The grants from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet total more than $400,000 and will be matched by the ports. Gov. Steve Beshear says business and industry depend on the ports for freight and raw materials, and the grants are an "investment in a critical part of Kentucky's commercial supply chain."

Symsonia Highway Restricted to One-Lane Traffic

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is restricting traffic starting Tuesday on Kentucky 348 Symsonia Highway to one lane between Benton and Symsonia. The Tribune Courier reports that the lane restriction is due to repairs of several base failures.

Fire Crews Douse I-24 Fire

A semi-trailer fire closed a section of I-24 in Trigg County for most of the morning. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd, the semi was on its way to Miami with a truckload of pears when it caught fire around 5:30 AM.

Paducah Interstate 24 Holiday Shopping Snarls

Kentucky transportation officials warn drivers to be aware heavy traffic along Interstate 24 near exits three and four at Paducah through the holiday shopping season. Traffic engineers will be adjusting signals along U.S. 60 at Exit Four to account for the influx of holiday shoppers, but they say traffic may still back up at times on the exit ramps. They warn congestion reduces the deceleration zone on the ramps and may occasionally back traffic up onto the main lanes of I-24.
