NTSB Issues Findings in Eggners Ferry Bridge Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board says the January 2012 allision between the cargo ship the Delta Mariner and the Eggners Ferry Bridge resulted from poor bridge span lighting and crew inattention to available navigational tools. The ship sheared off a 300 foot span of the bridge that crosses Kentucky Lake. No one was injured.

KYTC Prepares for Winter Storm

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are geared up to respond to a Christmas night snowstorm that is expected to create travel issues overnight on Tuesday and through the day on Wednesday.

Before they left work on Friday, KYTC crews across Western Kentucky fueled their trucks, loaded them with salt, and mounted snow plows so they can be prepared to roll out as quickly as possible as the storm develops.

I-69 Work Continues Near Dawson Springs

Work begins next year to reconstruct an interchange for the Interstate 69 project across western Kentucky. Governor Steve Beshear announced this week that a Muhlenberg County contractor will head the $5 million interchange project near Dawson Springs. The work will rebuild the cloverleaf interchange into a diamond-shaped interchange.

High Winds Create Hazardous Driving Conditions

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says high speeds today and tonight could make driving hazardous. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, indicating the region can expect sustained winds above 20 miles per hour with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour at times through tonight.

Eggners Ferry Bridge Lane Restriction Set for Dec. 11-12

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

This lane restriction is to allow deck repairs to better prepare the bridge for winter driving weather. This work zone will include an 8 ft. maximum load width.

Weekend/Night Work to Restart on US 45

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to resume lane restrictions for northbound traffic along US 45/Lone Oak Road near Interstate 24 Exit 7 in McCracken County for weekend and night work starting at 8 p.m.

$13.4M to Fund I-24 Asphalt Upgrades in McCracken Co.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded $13.4 million for improvements to Interstate 24 in McCracken County. The project to replace asphalt pavement between Exits 3 and 16 begins in March. Grand Rivers-based Jim Smith Contracting Company will head up the project. It’s slated for completion by the end of September next year.

Section of New Ledbetter Bridge Could Open in May

Construction crews are on track to complete one section of the new Ledbetter Bridge by May of next year. The bridge will connect U. S. 60 between McCracken and Livingston counties. It replaces the current outdated bridge. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the state offered the bridge contractor 3.8 million dollars in incentives to finish a two-lane section by May, and all four lanes by October next year.

Mowing Employee Injured on US 41 in Christian Co.

A commercial mowing company employee is being treated at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being run over by a tractor on the right-of-way along US 41 in Christian County late Wednesday. The worker, who has not been identified, was part of a mowing crew working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet on US 41 near Pembroke.
