Mrs. McLovets Crafts Cupcakes in her Cozy Princeton Shop

Nina McMullin has been baking all her life and decided to create a part-time outlet for her unique cupcakes. So she and her family set up a Thursday through Saturday business in an 1840's building adjacent to the Princeton Art Guild's historic building. Her shop, Mrs. McLovets' Cupcakes, opened in 2012, features five cupcake flavors a week. The shop's working space is 8' x 22', so this is truly a "small business."

Caldwell Co. Crash Blocks Traffic

A multi-vehicle accident on I-69 involving a semi-truck has blocked traffic around the crash site. Southbound and westbound traffic is being detoured at Exit 12 through Princeton. The delay and detour are expected to last until around 9 a.m.

Beer Comes to Princeton

Princeton’s Heaton's Marathon convenience store received its first shipment of beer today making it the first local business to sell alcohol since city residents voted to allow such sales August 7th. Alcohol Beverage Control Administrator Brent Thompson says Heaton’s was the first local business to apply for a license after the vote.

City of Princeton Continues to Accept Alcohol License Applications

Individuals are filing alcohol license applications in Princeton. City Alcohol Beverage Control Administrator Brent Thompson says six convenience stores have applied for beer licenses, and one restaurant has put in a liquor-by-the-drink license application. Thompson’s also received four requests for package store licenses. State regulation limits the city to only two package stores. Thompson says state ABC officials will decide who gets a license.

Princeton’s city council voted last night to pass the second reading of their new alcohol ordinance. Mayor Gayle Cherry says applications will now be accepted for the city’s two available liquor store licenses. She says it will be at least a couple of months before the stores open. City residents voted in August to go wet. The proposed measure allows businesses to sell alcohol from 7 a.m. to midnight, except on Sunday. Liquor stores may not be located within 1,000 feet of a school or within 200 feet of a church.

The 2012 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference begins this week in of Princeton.

The two-day conference will include sessions on selling historic properties, best practices for preserving endangered historic sites and converting schools and other public buildings into affordable housing.

Princeton Shuts Down Water to Locate Leak

UPDATE 10 PM: The water main has been repaired, restoring service to around 2,ooo households in Princeton. Water Department Finance Director Tracy Muscove says a boil water order is in effect until further notice. She says it will probably be lifted some time on Friday.

Roadway access has also been restored to the KY 139/KY 293 truck route through Princeton, according to KYTC public information officer Keith Todd.

KY airports receive federal grants for upgrades

Princeton’s airport is among the nine across Kentucky are receiving a share of grants totaling $2 million from the Federal Aviation Administration. Governor Steve Beshear announced the grants Thursday. The Princeton-Caldwell County Airport will receive $105,000 for runway, taxiway, and runway lighting improvements. Beshear says the money will help keep the state's airports safe.
