Mortgage Facility Expansion Planned in Owensboro

U.S. Bancorp officials say they're investing $15-million to expand their Owensboro offices and add 332 jobs.

The facility currently employs 1900 people who handle a portion of the bank's 1.6 million home mortgage loans. Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne says U.S. Bank has been a large contributor to the city’s increase in revenue over the past decades. This is the facility's third expansion since the mortgage servicing center opened in the 1970’s.

Owensboro expects $20M lift from sports tourism

Sports tourism is expected to have a $20 million impact on Owensboro this year. Jared Bratcher is sports marketing director for the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau. He tells the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer there will be more than 50 tournaments, including figure skating, hockey, baseball, running, soccer, softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, fishing and football.

An Owensboro granite countertop manufacturer is expanding its business and almost doubling its workforce. State tax incentives of up to $250,000 allow Unique Granite and Marble Incorporated to add 25 new full-time employees and invest $400,000 in its expansion.

Book Donation Helps Thousands of Children

More than 15,000 books have arrived in Owensboro thanks to a donation made by Scholastic Incorporated to the Marine Corps League's Toys for Tots program. Daviess County program coordinator Matt Fitzgerald says the gift from the children's book publisher was both "a great blessing" and "a logistical nightmare." The books are for children from newborn to 12 years old, which is the Toys for Tots target age group.

The City of Owensboro and Daviess County are restarting their juvenile drug court. County Attorney Claud Porter says both are putting up 88,000 dollars per year to fund the program. The juvenile drug court was discontinued because of state budget cuts.

Owensboro Man Sentenced to Prison for Fraud

An Owensboro businessman has been sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay $1.6 million in restitution for a scheme to defraud investors in three states. G3 Capital Management owner Cody George was also ordered to forfeit the contents of three bank accounts totaling about $484,000 to go toward final restitution. George pleaded guilty to 11 counts of mail fraud. In addition to his Owensboro office, he admitted to setting up offices in Florida and Texas.

ROMP may move up 2013 dates

Organizers of the annual ROMP bluegrass festival in Owensboro are considering a change in next year's dates. The festival is usually held during the last weekend in June, but organizers are polling fans to see if they would favor moving it up to the last weekend in May. International Bluegrass Music Museum executive director Gabrielle Gray says organizers want to keep their audience happy, safe and cooler, if possible. The proposed 2013 dates for the festival are either May 30^th to June 1^st or June 27^th through the 29^th. Gr
