Murray State President Randy Dunn has been selected to be Youngstown State University's next president. The Youngstown State Board of Trustees authorized board Chair Sudershan Garg and Vice Chair John Jakubek to negotiate and execute an employment contract with Dunn. Garg emphasized that the appointment is not final until contract terms can be reached.

Murray State to Close Parking Lots Next Week

Several parking lots on the campus of Murray State University will be closed next week for resurfacing.

The Regents College west parking lot, the Purcell Tennis Courts parking lot, the Lee Clark College south parking lot and the Elizabeth College north parking lot will all be closed from Monday, May 13 to Friday, May 17.

MSU Board of Regents Vote Again Against New Contract for Dunn

Murray State University’s Board of Regents Chairman Constantine Curris will begin the work of forming a search committee for a new MSU president in the coming weeks. The board voted Friday morning for a second time, 7 to 4, against extending President Randy Dunn a new contract. The second vote came after Kentucky’s Attorney General declared an illegal meeting occurred at social gathering for a majority of regents the night before the board’s first vote.

MSU Offers New Online-Only Degree

Murray State University will offer a new online-only masters degree in public administration this fall. Department Chair Dr. Bill Cassie said a number of students have expressed a preference in obtaining the graduate degree online. Students can complete the program in 12 or 24 months. Murray State now offers 5 undergraduate degrees and 6 graduate degrees online.

Dunn Selects MSU's Jay Morgan to Serve as Provost

Dr. Joseph (Jay) Morgan has been selected to serve as Murray State University’s next provost by Dr. Randy J. Dunn, MSU president. He was selected from a national pool of 84 candidates and was one of four finalists who interviewed for the position. The Provost serves as the university's chief academic officer.

Morgan holds a B.S. degree in agriculture science and business, and an M.S. in agriculture science from MSU. He earned his Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University in agricultural education.

Deckard Speaks Out About KY Attorney General Opinion on MSU Board's Social Gathering

Lexington Attorney, Jim Deckard stands by his request that the Murray State Board of Regents should declare votes cast the day after an illegal meeting null and void. Deckard requested the board take action in an initial complaint on March 22^nd regarding a social gathering of six regents the night before the board’s quarterly meeting. Deckard, following a denial from MSU, issued an appeal to the Kentucky Attorney General on April 1^st. The Attorney General declared the social gathering of a quorum of regents illegal because board business was discussed and there were no minutes taken at the illegal meeting.

Dunn Finalist for Illinois State University Presidency

Murray State University President Randy Dunn is among four finalists for Illinois State University's Presidency. Dunn was named as a finalist for Ohio's Youngstown State University yesterday. Dunn has been searching for a new job consistently for the last year in anticipation of the Board of Regents not renewing his contract. MSU's board of regents voted 7 to 4 against renewing Dunn's contract on March 15th.

Kentucky Attorney General Opinion: MSU Board of Regents Violated KY Open Meetings Law

Kentucky’s Attorney General says the Murray State Board of Regents violated Kentucky’s open meetings law when a quorum of the board attended a social gathering at the home of Regent Sharon Green on March 14^th. Lexington Attorney Jim Deckard sought the opinion after board Chairman Constantine Curris, through an attorney, denied allegations of an illegal meeting.

An Ohio newspaper reports Murray State University President Randy Dunn is among three finalists to be Youngstown State University’s next president. The Vindicator reports Dunn was among eight semifinalists interviewed this weekend. Dunn’s current contract at Murray State ends June 2014.
