HIV en HIV Testing Bill Clears State House 96-0 <p></p><p>A bill aimed at allowing victims of sexual assault to ask for quick HIV testing of their alleged attackers has cleared the Kentucky House.</p><p>Under current laws, only prosecutors can ask for HIV testing of the accused person, and they can only ask after a conviction. The bill would allow a victim or the prosecutor to ask for such a test before a conviction. Public health department director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck says condom use decreases the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and new HIV cases. The two-day public health conference will draw hundreds of health care providers, educators and advocates statewide. Participants will trade information and develop strategies to prevent the spread of the HIV virus, AIDS and other STDs.
