Toyota Supports Early Childhood Education with New Academies in Western Kentucky

Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky will fund six new bornlearning Academies in western Kentucky schools and renew support for two others.

Calloway County's East Elementary and Paducah’s Farley Elementary first received their share of $1 million in grant funds in 2012.

MSU's Presidential Search Committee Plans to Use National Search Firm

Murray State’s Presidential Search Committee plans to hire a search firm to find the university’s next president. The committee held its first meeting today. Murray State is looking for a president after its Board of Regents voted against extending a new contract to current president, Randy Dunn. Dunn’s contract expires in June 2014, but he is expected to leave in July to take the helm of Youngstown State University in Ohio.

MSU Foundation Director Tim Miller will act as an interim during the search for a permanent president.

Bluegrass State Games Enter 29th Year

Chad Lampe speaks with Becky Monarch on Sounds Good about the Bluegrass State Games. This is the largest amateur participatory event in Kentucky. Entering their 29th year, the Games' size and scope annually rank among the top three state games in the country. According to their website, the Games are the signature event of the Bluegrass Sports Commission, designed to provide Kentuckians of all ages and skill levels a wholesome avenue for positive development through sports and physical activity. Murray Police Investigating Homicide

The Murray Police Department says a local woman faces murder charges in a shooting death on Oxford drive in the city's Canterbury Subdivision. Sergeant Dave Howe says police responded to a domestic disturbance call around 12:30 p.m. today. Howe says Michelle Baxter, 50, of Murray is lodged at the Calloway County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing.

Laynie Mitchell on the Importance of Early Childhood Music Education

Chad Lampe speaks with Laynie Mitchell about the importance of early childhood music education. Mitchell is Choir Director at Murray High School and an adjunct faculty member at Murray State University. She is offering a 4-week early childhood music class this summer on Thursdays in June at First Presbyterian Church in Murray. Classes start at 9 am. and cost $40. In the course overview, she writes, "In order to be fully developed individuals, all children should receive music instruction. Also music instruction received at an early age will make the greatest difference in terms of life-long music learning. Curris Announces MSU Presidential Search Committee

Murray State University Board of Regents Chairman Dr. Constantine Curris has announced the nine members to serve on a search committee for MSU’s next president. The board voted 7 to 4, twice, against extending current president Randy Dunn’s contract. The first vote in March followed a social gathering that was later deemed an illegal meeting by Kentucky’s Attorney General. The second vote came on May 10^th, as described by Curris, to reinforce the board’s role to act in an open and transparent manner.

Murray Woman Shares Story of Ongoing Persecution of Baha'is in Iran

Murray Resident Mona Kashani Heern, her mother and sister fled Iran in the early 1980's after unexpected news that prison officials had executed her father. Heern's father had be imprisoned for being a member of the Baha'i faith.
