Darlene Dreyer Part 1

Murray, KY – The Paducah Symphony Orchestra began its search for a new executive director when Jeff Voigt left last spring. Its board of directors found a young, diminutive dynamo named Darlene Dreyer with orchestra management experience. Kate Locthe, with part one of a two part interview with Dreyer, who majored in physics for her undergraduate degree from Lehigh University.

Youth Vote #2 Urban Youth

Murray, KY – As the 2008 presidential campaign continues, many college students already have identified their favorites based on the issues that concern them, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and climate change. But, the U.S. Census Bureau says 65 percent of 18 to 24 year olds are not enrolled in college.

Strange Fruit

Murray, KY – Protest music has been a popular and important part of American culture since the Revolutionary War. Songs like "God Save the Thirteen States" and "The Liberty Song" expressed a desire for change, and freedom from oppression. The 20th century surged with protest music from the Great Depression to the Vietnam War, but Dr. Brian Clardy tell us a story behind one of the most influential, and controversial protest songs of th 1920s; a song which planted the seeds for the Civil Rights Movement, decades before it came to fruition.
