Carroll Hubbard Concedes

Mayfield, KY – Shortly after 8 o'clock Hubbard placed a phone call congratulating Winters. He then came in to face the more than 100 supporters who turned up to the Mayfield-Graves County Senior Citizens Center in support of his campaign, to announce his concession.

Hubbard admitted that the deciding factor lay with Calloway County, which went with Winters.

KY House races results

Murray, KY – All 100 Kentucky House seats were up for grabs last night, but only 29 districts had contested races. Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh looks at some of the results.

Democrat Linda Belcher won the Bullitt County House seat formerly held by her late husband, Larry Belcher, who died in a car crash last month. Democrat Wilson Stone will replace House Majority Whip Rob Wilkey of Scottsville, who's retiring.

Winters Beats Hubbard

Murray, KY – That was the sound at the GOP headquarters in Murray, Kentucky last night as supporters of Senator Winters heard the final results. The final tally put Winters ahead of Hubbard by about four thousand votes. Winters thanked his supporters after the announcement. He says he's honored to serve the commonwealth again.

Early Voters on Election Day

Murray, KY – The polls in Kentucky opened at six o'clock this morning. Angela Hatton was on hand to ask voters about their polling experience.

Just a handful of people were out early at the polling place at Hickory Woods Retirement Home in Murray. But some voters eating breakfast at Martha's Restaurant say they waited for twenty to thirty minutes to cast their ballot. Patsy Lampkin says her voting experience went pretty smoothly.

Winters Win

Murray, KY – Dozens of Calloway County Republicans turned out last night to support Kentucky Senator Ken Winters's re-election bid. They weren't disappointed as Winters swept his opponent in the first district, Carroll Hubbard, by about four thousand votes. Vice President of the Murray State University College Republicans Caroline Cash was one of the volunteers who helped on Winters's campaign.

Kentucky Regional Results

Murray, KY – Republican Incumbent Ken Winters defeated Democrat Carroll Hubbard for the
1st District State Senate seat last night with 54 percent of the vote. A
Murray resident Winters is the former president of Campbellsville University
and the former dean of Murray State University's College of Industry and
Technology.

Voter Fraud Hotline

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's voter fraud hotline was ringing off the hook today, and the attorney general's office will be checking out every complaint and concern. We get more from Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh.

Because it's a presidential election and voters turned out in droves, the attorney general's office thought it might be a busy day on the voter fraud hotline. And it was, says Allison Martin of the AG's office. "We've had about 250 calls from across the commonwealth."
