McConnell/Lunsford Stops

Murray, KY – U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell is at the Hopkins County GOP headquarters in Madisonville today as part of his Victory Bus Tour to energize supporters. McConnell will stop in Murray tomorrow. The senator speaks at the Court Square at 3 PM. A campaign schedule for democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford was not immediately available. Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford is in Louisville for a KET debate without McConnell tonight and visits locations in Central Kentucky tomorrow.

3rd District Debate

Hopkinsville, KY – Incumbent democrat Joey Pendleton and challenger republican Tom Jones debate tonight in Hopkinsville. The local chapter of the Kentucky League of Women Voters hosts the debate between the 3rd District State Senate candidates. League volunteer Carolyn Self says the debate begins at 7:30 tonight at the Bradford Square Mall.

Healthcare and Earnings KY

Murray, KY – A consumer health report issued today (yesterday) shows health care premiums rose 2-point-8 times faster than Kentucky workers' earnings between 2000 and 2007. Non-profit health care advocacy group Families USA finds premiums shot up 47 and a half percent, while earnings increased around seventeen percent. The group's executive director Ron Pollack says healthcare costs are comprising more and more of Kentuckians' incomes.

Cold Cuts Growing Season

Murray, KY – Frigid air is moving into Kentucky and Tennessee and forecasters say it could end the growing season in much of those states. The National Weather Service says a building high pressure area in Canada is sending cold air southward. Temperatures at or below 32 degrees are forecast for early Tuesday and early Wednesday for a few hours both days. By Wednesday afternoon, more southerly winds should bring warmer air into the region.
