Marshall County Responds to Criticism

Benton, KY – In a statement released yesterday, Marshall County officials say a barrage of personal attacks regarding the search for two missing teenagers in Kentucky Lake has led them to hand over control to Graves County and state officials. Public Information Officer Wendy Baxter says emergency officials had invested over 18 thousand man hours in the search, but were forced to put their efforts on hold when the ice storm hit.

Murray, KY – Calloway County Emergency Management Director Bill Call was faced with directing emergency personnel in the midst of what Governor Steve Beshear called the worst natural disaster Kentucky has ever seen, without any common communication devices. So, Call also known as also known as KJ4W on his HAM radio mobilized the Murray State Amateur Radio Club.

Cell phone trouble in three-county area

Mayfield, KY – Citizens of Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman counties are unable to dial 911 from their cell phones after a fiber-optic telecommunications line was severed near Mayfield. The Kentucky State Police reports the line supplies long-distance telephone service to Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman counties. The lack of this long distance service is preventing cellular 911 calls from being delivered to the KSP dispatch center. Land line 911 service has not been affected. It's unknown how long the outage will last.
