Man dies in car accident in Calloway County

Murray, KY – A man died yesterday after flipping his car into a creek at the intersection of Snow Road and Hawthorn Road in Calloway County. Police pronounced Robert G. Horrobin of Murray dead at the scene after a cellular 911 call notified them of his crash. He was taken to Madisonville for an autopsy that afternoon and results are still pending. No one else was involved in the accident, and an investigation into the cause is ongoing.

Coldwater, KY – Traffic is back to normal this afternoon after a two-car accident closed Old Mayfield Road in McCracken County for several hours. The crash, which involved a truck and a passenger vehicle, resulted in two injuries.

CPE Sets 4 percent Tuition Ceiling for MSU

Murray, KY – Kentucky's public universities will be limited on how high they can raise tuition for the upcoming academic year. The state Council on Postsecondary Education set tuition ceilings during its meeting today, including a four percent limit for undergraduate tuition at regional comprehensive universities like Murray State. Assistant Vice President of Communications Catherine Sivills says budget work has already begun. She says the tuition cap gives officials a rough idea on how much wiggle room they'll have.

Wickliffe paper plant offers to take storm debris

Wickliffe, KY – A local paper plant has proposed a new method for disposing of debris from January's ice storm. NewPage Corporation spokeswoman Sandra Wilson says the company's Wickliffe plant has offered to take the bark from fallen trees to fuel its boiler. The plant can only use so much bark, but it has offered to take portions of debris from both Paducah and Mayfield. Wilson says NewPage has yet to receive any trees, but it is open to negotiation with contractors.
