TN Handgun Bills up for Vote

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee House is scheduled to hear proposals that would allow people with handgun permits to carry their weapons in local and state parks. One bill would let local governments decide where to allow guns. For example, officials could allow them on greenways, but not at ballfields. The other measure, would allow handgun permit holders to carry guns in state parks. Both proposals are up for a full House vote this evening. Both bills are in the Senate Judiciary Committee awaiting a vote.

Alcohol on Sidewalks Ordinance

Paducah, KY – Paducah City Commissioners will discuss creation of a new alcohol-related ordinance tomorrow night in their commission workshop meeting. The Paducah Sun reports the ordinance would allow restaurants to serve alcohol at sidewalk seating tables. Restaurant owners and officials say the measure would increase the atmosphere of the city's downtown and bring in more business.

Dunlap Has Pretrial Hearing

Smithland, KY – Attorneys have begun entering evidence in the trial of man accused of three Trigg County murders. The Princeton Times Leader reports Kevin Dunlap had his first pretrial hearing Friday in Livingston County Court. Officers arrested Dunlap last fall for murdering three children and attempting to murder and rape their mother. The trial was moved earlier this month to Livingston County to minimize pretrial publicity. Dunlap will sit for another pretrial hearing May 15. Jurors will be selected shortly before his November trial.

"A Man Named Pearl" at Maiden Alley Cinema

Paducah, KY – The Paducah School of Art presents the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers'' documentary, "A Man Named Pearl" at Paducah's Maiden Alley Cinema tonight at 7. It's about a South Carolinian topiary gardener whose real story transcends his horticultural achievements. Producer and director Scott Galloway will be there as well to present the film and take questions. Kate Lochte talks with Galloway about the film.
