Fightin' for the Kentucky Derby

Murray, KY – As we all know, the 2nd attempt to pass expanded gambling legislation in Kentucky made it out of committee only to fall short in the full legislature. Commentator Patience Renzulli is among those disappointed by the measure's failure. She says slots opponents have backed the wrong horse.

Somebody told me that people in this neck of the woods don't care much about the Kentucky Derby.

What? I think those are fightin' words.

Leech Not Guilty

Mayfield, KY – A jury has found the final suspect in the slaying of a western Kentucky teenager not guilty of all charges. A Graves County Circuit Court jury returned the verdict today on Lynn Austin Leech. He was the last of the defendants in the 2000 murder case of 18-year-old Jessica Currin of Mayfield. Leech had been charged with tampering with evidence and perjury. Six others were either convicted or pled guilty in Currin's death.

Kentucky Schools Ready for H1N1

Murray, KY – As Kentucky's schools start their fall sessions, health officials say districts are prepared to deal with the H-1-N-1 virus. State Public Health Commissioner Doctor William Hacker says the virus has so far affected school-age children more often than older adults.

Kentucky Prepares for H1N1 Virus

Murray, KY – Kentucky's threat from the H-1-N-1 Flu virus remains low, but health and government officials have started preparing for an increased numbers of cases when the flu season picks up later this year. Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Doctor William Hacker says now the virus has been established in most counties, the state has eased tracking efforts.
