Gas Prices Give Retailers Hope

Bowling Green, KY – Low gasoline prices give Kentucky retailers reason for hope. Just a couple months ago, Jan Gould of the Kentucky Retail Federation says, they worried high prices would cut into gift-giving budgets. Now, with prices well below two-dollars a gallon Gould hopes business will pick up.

We get a holiday sale survey in advance of the holiday sale season and one of the factors that our members cited as really having a significant impact on holiday sales would be the price of fuel, particularly gasoline.

Food Issues Study

Bowling Green, KY – As Kentuckians gather around the table this Thanksgiving, they are concerned about the food they eat. A study from the University of Kentucky says consumers worry abut food safety, the quality of their food, and its variety. Researcher Keiko Tanaka says many want more locally grown foods.

Local Food Thanksgiving

Bowling Green, KY – This Thanksgiving, many Kentuckians want more local food offered at grocery stores. That's according to a survey conducted by a University of Kentucky rural sociology class. Interviews with consumers at five Lexington food retail markets showed people were universally aware of food issues. Keiko Tanaka is an Associate Professor in the U-K College of Agriculture.

Shock Probation Denied

Bardwell, KY – A Carlisle County judge has denied shock probation for an Iraq war veteran convicted in May of reckless homicide. The order from Bardwell Judge Tim Langford means former Kentucky National Guardsman Cody Morris will remain in jail until at least April, when he becomes eligible for parole. Morris is serving time for the shooting death of fellow guardsman Casey Lee Hall.

Paris Civic Leader Dies

Paris, TN – A Paris businessman and civic leader died yesterday after succumbing to wounds sustained in a shooting incident at Reelfoot Lake. The Paris Post-Intelligencer reports John Burnett was shot in the arm and abdomen as he inspected his duck blind with his nephew and nephew's friends. Burnett served as president of several local organizations, including the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
