Cold Temperatures Hamper Brining Efforts

Paducah, KY – Extremely low temperatures are hampering efforts to prepare Kentucky's roadways for winter weather. As much as five inches of snow is expected for our region beginning tomorrow night. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet usually sends out crews to put salt brine on the roads, but transportation spokesman Keith Todd says the brine doesn't work at temperatures below 20 degrees. He says that leaves a limited window for when crews can pretreat highways.

Clarksville OKs Master Plan Research Funds

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville, Tennessee City Councilors have voted to allocate almost a quarter-million dollars to fund studies used in the development of its 20-year master plan. The studies are expected to target a range of diverse areas, including transportation, housing and even entertainment. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports the plan is being championed by Mayor Johnny Piper, who says it will steer growth instead of allow it to happen haphazardly. Clarksville-based BLF Marketing is expected to spearhead the research.

10 Charges of Child Rape against Oak Grove Man

Oak Grove, KY – An Oak Grove, Kentucky man yesterday was charged with 10 counts of child rape. 43-year-old Wayne J. Coates is in Christian County Jail on a $100,000 bond, where he awaits extradition to Montgomery County, Tennessee, where the allegations originated. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports Coates was arrested by US Marshals and is not a convicted sex offender.
