Jon Draud Resigns

Frankfort – A year after his hiring, Kentucky Education Commissioner Jon Draud is resigning due to health reasons. The former northern Kentucky legislator suffered a stroke in September. He says his recovery has gone well, but he's only been able to work three days a week.

Tennessee Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly

Tennessee – Tennessee's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has dropped slightly but steadily over the last few months, from 7.2 percent in September, to 7.0 percent in October to 6.9 percent in November. The state Department of Labor and Workforce Development reports, about 210,000 Tennesseans were unemployed in November, a decrease of about 2,000 people from the previous month.

Grand Rivers Makes Two Southern Living Top-10 Lists

Western Kentucky – A Western Kentucky community has made two Top-10 venue lists in the Southern Living Magazine annual Readers' Choice Awards. The community of Grand Rivers ranked 8th in the Best Small Town category, and the vista of Kentucky Lake from the Grand Rivers Jetty won the Number 4 spot in the list of Best Scenic Views in the South. Southern Living readers from across the nation weighed in on the 2008 survey.
