Frankfort, KY – Paducah Senator Bob Leeper's bill lifting the moratorium on construction of nuclear power facilities in Kentucky has cleared another legislative hurdle in Frankfort. The bill, which already has Senate approval, passed the House Energy committee 12-6. Prior to the vote, Tom Fitzgerald of the Kentucky Resources Council, urged its defeat.

Washington, D.C – A bill passed by the House would provide more than 360 million dollars in federal funds for projects in western Kentucky. U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield says he hopes the Omnibus Appropriations Act for 2009 will create new jobs and boost local economies. Included in the bill is funding for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion plant, Livingston County Library and the Olmstead Lock and Dam, among others. The bill will now be considered by the Senate and, upon approval, sent to the President to be signed into law.

Western Kentucky – Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville is the first of its kind in this region. Since its dedication in March 2004, nearly five years ago, more than a thousand veterans, spouses, and dependents including 11 active duty soldiers killed in Iraq have come to a final rest at the cemetery's grounds. Jacque Day highlights the life of the first soldier buried at the military cemetery, an African American Mess Sergeant who enlisted in the US Army during segregation.
