2 Fort Campbell Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Fort Campbell, KY – Two Fort Campbell soldiers have been killed in an attack in Khost, eastern Afghanistan this week. Department of Defense officials say 24-year-old Sergeant Jonathan Richardson of Arkansas and 25-year-old Private First Class Jason Kropat of New York, were killed Tuesday. They are both assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing inside the US-Afghan base that killed two and wounded a number of others.

Flags Honor Fort Campbell Soldier

Frankfort, KY – Flags at Kentucky state office buildings will fly at half-staff tomorrow for a Fort Campbell soldier who died in Afghanistan. Twenty-one-year-old Sergeant Vincent Owen died March 1st from injuries sustained when his vehicle was attacked in Paktika province. Burial services will also be tomorrow in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Bill Johnson Drops out of Senate Race

Elkton, KY – Kentucky U-S Senate candidate Bill Johnson withdrew his name from the race yesterday. Johnson sites disappointing numbers in local poles as impetus for his decision. He says he has no regrets and enjoyed his time campaigning. Johnson states he will do anything he can to support a Republican candidate for current Senator Jim Bunning's seat. However, he plans to remain neutral and will not endorse either Trey Grayson or Rand Paul in the GOP primary.

Maiden Alley Cinema presents "A Single Man"

Paducah, KY – "Most Criminally Overlooked" could be the only honor the movie A Single Man from first-time director Tom Ford and Colin Firth took away from the 82nd Academy Awards. Firth was nominated for Best Actor in this film based on a 1964 novel by Christopher Isherwood, but lost to Jeff Bridges. Larry Thomas and Todd Hatton talk about this story of a closeted professor in 1962 Los Angeles facing life without the man he loved, playing this week at Maiden Alley Cinema in Paducah.

Amanda's bill clears Senate committee

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo is applauding Senate committee passage of Amanda's Bill on domestic violence. The measure now awaits a Senate floor vote. Stumbo offered the bill in the wake of last September's murder of Amanda Ross of Lexington. Stumbo believes Amanda's Bill possibly could have prevented Ross' death.

Kentucky Education budget concerns

Frankfort, KY – Education leaders in Kentucky have concerns about the budget bill passed by house lawmakers. The spending plan cuts two instructional days from the school calendar to save the state money. Joe Brothers of Elizabethtown is chair of the Kentucky board of education. In a letter to the general assembly, Brothers writes that lawmakers are threatening Kentucky's application for federal race to the top money.
