Stewart County brothers die in car crash

Dover, TN – Two Stewart County Tennessee brothers died yesterday afternoon in a crash that injured three others. Highway Patrol Spokesman Mike Browning says Justin and Adam Pieratt of Indian Mound crossed the median on Highway 79. They were killed when their vehicle struck Donna Hillard's car head-on. Hilliard and two passengers traveling with the Pieratts suffered serious injuries. All were flown to Vanderbilt University for treatment.

Debris Collects Exceeds 3 Million Cubic Yards

Murray, KY – Since January's ice storm contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have collected more than 3 million cubic yards of debris in the Commonwealth's westernmost counties. Department spokesperson Keith Todd says work is completed in Carlisle, Livingston, and Calloway counties. Clean-up efforts will continue throughout the region.

Two more break-ins reported in Paris

Paris, TN – Two more burglaries have occurred in Paris since a string of break-ins Tuesday morning on Tyson Road. Sergeant Ricky Watson says a thief broke into a Lankford road residence sometime Tuesday and stole about $200. A Hardy Street resident also reported that her door had been kicked open Wednesday afternoon and someone had stolen a $1,200 laptop, a DVD player and DVDs. Watson says the police have not connected these burglaries to the Tyson Road break-ins and are still searching for suspects.

Motorcycle Safety

Frankfort, KY – Now that Memorial Day weekend is here, motorcyclists are pulling their bikes out of storage and hitting the highways. Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer says the number of registered motorcycles in the state is rapidly increasing.

Second Fort Campbell Suicide This Month

Fort Campbell, KY – Reports say two Fort Campbell soldiers have committed suicide this month. That brings the total suspected suicides this year at the base to fourteen. Military officials have declined to identify the victims. But the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports 911 logs Monday night indicate enlisted man Jacob Woods shot himself. Responding officers found Woods dead on the scene. The other victim remains anonymous. Local and national army officials continue to work to reduce the rising number of suicides in the military.

New Madrid Seismic Zone may be going dormant

Murray, KY – As long as humans have inhabited the Four Rivers region, they've known the ground beneath their feet, and ours today as well, is less than stable. However, a new report released last month says the New Madrid Seismic Zone may be going dormant. Todd Hatton spoke with one of the study's authors, and with a geologist who disagrees, about what the fault line is doing these days, and what it might do tomorrow.
