Clarksville, Tenn. – A Clarksville man is charged with accepting substantial bribes to place more than a half million dollars in contracts to favored companies.

A federal indictment says 38-year-old Army captain, Bryant Williams accepted the bribes while in Baghdad from 2005 to 2006.

Williams pleaded not guilty to mail fraud and bribery today (Monday). Defense attorney David Greenfield said Williams' 17-year Army career was otherwise unblemished. He is free on bond.

Washington D.C. – Whitfield of Hopkinsville signed the letter along with 49 other Republican congressman that objected to funding staff salaries of three San Francisco arts groups they accuse of producing obscene art.

Whitfield says his signature on the letter doesn't mean he disapproves of the NEA's work.

"Most of the funding that has come to my district has been quite productive and it's been a program that's been well received in the schools and the local performing arts groups."

Kentucky – Kentucky's new Education Commissioner is using social networking sites in an effort to live up to transparency promises he made upon his recent hiring. Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh has the story.

Two weeks ago, when he began work, Education Commissioner Terry Holliday told reporters his administration will be marked by transparency. And he said that included utilization of social networking sites on the Internet.

Princeton, KY – The board of directors at Princeton Electric Plant is looking into expanding broadband internet service to rural residents outside the city limits. The board approved a resolution to submit an application for stimulus funds last Thursday. If funds are awarded, three towers will be erected near Fredonia, Dawson Springs, and Eddy Bay in Lyon County. The towers would stand about 200 feet tall and provide broadband connectivity to customers within a 4-mile radius.

Fort Campbell, KY – Hundreds of veterans who never got a homecoming from the Vietnam War can say they've finally gotten their day of appreciation. At Fort Campbell on Sunday, veterans organized a re-enactment of their return from war, complete with greetings by relatives, friends and Army officials. The ceremony was organized as an official recognition of the sacrifice of the previous generation of soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen - many of whom received very little support following the Vietnam War.

Clarksville, TN – A Clarksville man died after being shot near Lincoln Homes yesterday. 26-year-old Roderick D. Self was found lying on the ground after police responded to reports of gunshots around 5:30 in the evening. Self was taken to Gateway Medical Center before dying from his injuries. Clarksville Police Spokesman Jim Knoll says the investigation continues as officers canvass the area, interviewing nearby residents.
